Thermostatic mixing valves (also known as TMVs) automatically calculate the input flows of hot and cold water to the valve to ensure an output with a constant temperature not exceeding the maximum allowed temperature.
Australian Standards legislation has been enabled through AS/NZS 3500.4:1997, for the hot water control and the safe delivery of hot water.
This legislation requires hot water to be delivered to sanitary fixtures at a temperature no greater than 50 degrees C in domestic household applications & 45 degrees C in applications such as:
Early childhood/ Daycare centres
Primary and Secondary schools, private & government run
Hospitals & medical centres
Nursing homes for the aged, sick and disabled persons.
With hot water required to be stored at a minimum temperature of 60 degrees C to prevent the growth of Legionella bacteria within the hot water cylinder, TMVs are purpose built valves for the delivery of controlled temperature hot water at the outlets (showers, basins, baths etc)
TMVs are required to be installed and serviced in accordance with National Plumbing and Drainage code AS 3500 in conjunction with any manufacturers, local and state requirements. TMVs require servicing and maintenance at intervals no greater than 12 month under the current legislation & forms sent to your local council annually.
